1995 Suzuki value: How much should you actually be paying?

Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this old 1995 Suzuki lately. It’s been a real trip, let me tell you. It all started when I saw this beat-up thing sitting in a neighbor’s yard. I’ve always been a sucker for older vehicles, and something about this Suzuki just called to me.

First thing I did was talk to the owner. Turns out, it had been sitting there for years. The battery was totally dead, the tires were flat, and it was covered in dust and grime. But, the body seemed pretty solid, and I figured, “Why not?” We haggled a bit, and I ended up getting it for a steal.

Then came the fun part – getting it running.

  • I started with the basics and put in a new battery.
  • Then pumped up the tires, just enough to get it rolling.
  • Next, hitched it up to my truck and dragged it back to my place.

Getting Suzuki into the Garage

Once I got it into my garage, I gave it a good once-over. I drained the old gas, which looked and smelled like varnish. Seriously, it was nasty. And, I put in some fresh fuel, and added some fuel system cleaner, hoping to loosen up any gunk in the lines.

Next up, I checked the oil, it was surprisingly clean, but I changed it anyway, along with the filter. Might as well start fresh, right? Then I tackled the spark plugs. They were pretty fouled, so I replaced those with new ones.

Then I Checked the other stuff, like, the air filter was clogged with dust and who-knows-what-else, so I slapped a new one in there.

Also checked the hoses and belts. A couple of the hoses were cracked, so I replaced those to avoid any leaks.

With all that done, I figured it was time to try and start it. I turned the key, and… it cranked! But it wouldn’t quite catch. After a few tries, I realized it probably wasn’t getting enough fuel.

I did a little digging online and figured it might be the fuel pump. So I located it, pulled it out, and yep, it was dead. I ordered a new one, slapped it in, and tried again. This time, it sputtered a bit, then roared to life! It was running rough, but it was running!

I let it idle for a while, checking for leaks and keeping an eye on the temperature gauge. After it warmed up, I took it for a spin around the block. It was still running a bit rough, but it was moving under its own power! I figured, getting the gunk out of the system!

I’ve still got a bunch of things to do – I need to fix it up nicely, tune the engine, check the brakes, and probably replace the tires. But for now, I’m just happy to have it running. It’s been a fun project, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can do with this old Suzuki.
