2013 Monte Carlo vs. [Competitor Car]: Which One Is Better?

Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this 2013 Monte Carlo, trying to get it running a bit smoother. Thought I’d share what I did, ’cause why not? Maybe it’ll help someone else out there.

2013 Monte Carlo vs. [Competitor Car]: Which One Is Better?

First Steps: Checking the Basics

First thing I did was pop the hood and just look around. You know, make sure nothing was obviously wrong, like a family of squirrels living in the air filter. Thankfully, no squirrels.

  • Checked the oil – it was a little low, so I topped it off.
  • Checked the coolant – looked good.
  • Checked the battery connections – they were a bit corroded, so I cleaned them up with a wire brush.

Getting a Little Deeper

After the quick checks, I figured I’d dive a bit deeper. I’m no mechanic, but I can follow instructions.

I changed the spark plugs. The old ones were pretty gunked up. It wasn’t too hard, just had to be careful not to drop anything into the engine. I used to think spark plugs were voodoo, but youtube to the rescue, eh?

Then I went and cleaned the throttle body. I’d heard that could help with rough idling, and this car was definitely idling rough. Used some throttle body cleaner and an old toothbrush. It was surprisingly dirty.

Next, I decided to go crazy and I replaced the air filter, I know right? Wild. It was black, so, yeah, definitely needed replacing.

The Result

After all that, I started it up. It took a few tries (always a bit nerve-wracking after you’ve been messing with stuff), but it finally caught. And you know what? It actually ran smoother! The idle was much better, and it felt a little more responsive when I gave it some gas.

Now, I’m not saying it’s perfect. It’s still a 2013 car, and it’s got its quirks. But it’s definitely better than it was. And I learned a few things along the way, which is always a win.

Might tackle the brakes next. We’ll see how brave I’m feeling.
