My Little Adventure with an 80s Renault
So, I’ve been messing around with this old 80s Renault lately. It all started when I saw this beat-up car sitting in a neighbor’s yard. I’ve always liked that boxy, retro look, so I thought, “Why not?” I went over and asked about it, ended up buying it for a pretty good price. It was a gamble, for sure.
First thing I did was give it a good look-over. The paint was faded, there was some rust, and the interior… well, let’s just say it had seen better days. But the engine, surprisingly, turned over! That was a good sign. I knew, Right, this thing might actually run again.
I started with a very basic cleanup. I Hosed down the whole thing to get rid of years of dirt and grime. Then I tackled the interior, vacuuming everything out and scrubbing the seats. I even found some old cassette tapes under the seats – pure 80s gold!

- Phase 2: Engine Checkup
- Phase 3: Making the interior not smell like sadness.
Next up, the engine. I’m no mechanic, but I can follow instructions. I changed the oil, replaced the spark plugs, and put in a new air filter. Basic stuff, really. I also checked all the fluids and topped them off. Then came the moment of truth: I turned the key, and after a few coughs and sputters, it roared to life! It was a rough idle, but it was running!
I kept working, and changed the oil, and I put in a new air filter, it runs smooth! I can not believe it.
There’s still a ton to do. The bodywork needs some serious attention, and I’m pretty sure I’ll have to replace the brakes. I need to deal with the * for now, I’m just enjoying the fact that this old 80s Renault is alive again. It’s a project, a hobby, and a bit of a time machine, all rolled into one. I will continue to work on, I’m so excited about it!
