Okay, so I wanted to spice up my boring old football, you know, give it some personality. I’d seen some cool designs online, and I figured, “Why not? Let’s do this!”
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my football. It was pretty standard, nothing fancy. Then, I gathered my supplies. I decided to go with permanent markers because I wanted the design to last. I picked out a bunch of colors – red, blue, yellow, and, of course, black for outlining.
- Standard football
- Permanent markers (various colors)
- A rough idea (in my head!)
The Messy Process
I started by sketching out a basic design on the football with a pencil. Just some simple flames and maybe a lightning bolt or two. Nothing too complicated, because, let’s be honest, I’m no artist. Once I was kinda happy with the pencil sketch, I went over it with the black marker. This was the scary part! No turning back after that.
Then came the coloring. I filled in the flames with red and yellow, trying to make them look, well, flame-like. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it was starting to look pretty cool. The lightning bolts I did in blue, just to add some contrast.
The Final Result
After a few hours of coloring, and a few smudges here and there, I was done! It wasn’t exactly professional-looking, but it was definitely unique. My plain old football now had some serious flair. It’s got flames, it’s got lightning bolts, it’s got…personality! I took a picture in my yard.
I showed to my friends when we were playing in yard, and the first reaction was “Wow!”

The next time I take it out to the park, I’m sure it’ll turn some heads. And even if it doesn’t, I had a blast doing it. So, if you’re looking for a fun little project, I definitely recommend giving this a try. Just don’t blame me if your football ends up looking a little… abstract. Just have a try and you may like it!
