Okay, let’s talk about getting that first row sorted.

Getting Started
My workspace, specifically the digital one on my main monitor, was getting out of hand. Seriously, stuff everywhere. It got to the point where finding the simplest file felt like digging through a junk drawer blindfolded. I kept putting off cleaning it up because, honestly, it looked like a massive job. But yesterday, I just had enough. I decided, okay, forget the whole screen for now. Just focus on the 1st row. The very top row of icons or whatever lands there.
The Process
So, first thing I did was grab everything cluttering the top edge and just dragged it all down somewhere into the middle mess. Just clearing that top strip felt kinda good already. Gave me some breathing room, you know?
Then, I looked at the pile of icons and thought, what do I actually click on every single day without even thinking? It wasn’t that much stuff, really.
- My main ‘Projects’ folder.
- The browser icon, obviously.
- My code editor shortcut.
- And the terminal. Yeah, that’s pretty much essential.
I picked those few icons out. Didn’t hunt for ages, just the obvious ones. Then I dragged them back up to the top, starting from the left. Lined them up neatly. Left a bit of space between them. Didn’t want them crammed together like before. The key was not overthinking it. Just get something in that first row that makes sense.
The Result (So Far)
And that was it. Just the first row. Took maybe five minutes? But looking at it now, that clean top edge makes a huge difference. The rest of the screen is still a disaster zone, I won’t lie. But having that first row organised, simple and clean, it sort of sets a standard. It feels less chaotic already.

It’s a small step, sure. But it’s a start. Proved to myself I can tackle this mess bit by bit. Starting with the 1st row was the trick. Now I gotta keep going, row by row, I guess. But at least I started. Feels good.
