Greg Kraft Golfer: A look at his impact on the sport.

Okay, so I dove into this whole “Greg Kraft Golfer” thing, right? Honestly, at first, I was kinda clueless. I mean, I knew the name, vaguely, but I didn’t know much else. So, step one: Google. Duh.

First thing I did was actually research the guy. Read up on his career, you know? Saw some old tournament footage, read articles. Just to get a feel for his swing and playing style. Turns out he had a decent run back in the day.

Next, I started piecing together different swing videos I found of him. You can find some real gems if you dig deep enough on YouTube. I was paying attention to things like his grip, stance, takeaway…the whole shebang. I slowed them down, watched them over and over. Trying to burn it into my brain.

Then, I hit the range. Started slow. Focused on getting the grip right. That was key for me, actually. He seems to have a strong grip, which I don’t usually use. So I experimented a bit. Felt weird at first, I have to admit.

Moved on to the takeaway. He keeps it pretty compact. Again, something I don’t usually do. I tend to get a little long in my swing. So I really concentrated on keeping my arms closer to my body. Felt like I was swinging inside-out, almost.

Here’s where things got tricky. Getting the feel of the transition at the top of the swing. He has this little pause… not a full stop, but a definite gather. Took me a while to figure that out. I kept rushing it.

Spent like, an hour just working on that transition. Just trying to feel that little pause. And you know what? Eventually, it clicked. Started hitting some really solid shots.

From there, it was all about repetition. Trying to groove that swing. Went back to the videos, watched them again. Made some minor tweaks. Felt like I was getting closer and closer.

Then I took it to the course. That’s where the real test is, right? And honestly? It wasn’t perfect. Definitely not. But I hit some shots I wouldn’t normally hit. And that felt pretty damn good.

Learned a few things along the way:

  • Don’t be afraid to experiment with your grip. It can make a bigger difference than you think.
  • That transition at the top of the swing is crucial. Take your time.
  • Just because a swing works for someone else, doesn’t mean it’ll automatically work for you. But it’s worth exploring.

It’s an ongoing process, of course. I’m not about to turn into Greg Kraft overnight. But it was a fun experiment. And I definitely picked up some new things that I can incorporate into my own game. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll try copying a different golfer.
