Alright, let’s talk about tracking down those monkey tags in GTA 5. I’d finished the main story stuff, you know, the big heists and all that, and was kinda just cruising around Los Santos and Blaine County lookin’ for something to tick off the list.

Heard about these monkey mosaics scattered everywhere. Some fella named Space Monkey supposedly did ’em. Thought, “Okay, how hard can it be?” Started off just keeping my eyes peeled while driving around as Franklin, mostly. Found a couple by pure luck, plastered on walls in Strawberry and Davis. Felt pretty chuffed at first.
But man, there are a LOT of them. Like, fifty. Driving around aimlessly lookin’ for tiny monkey pictures got old real fast. Spent hours finding maybe five or six. Realized this was gonna take forever if I didn’t get a bit more organized.
Getting Serious About Monkeys
So, I eventually caved. Had to find some kinda map or guide online that showed where these things were hiding. Didn’t want to, felt like cheating sorta, but fifty tags is just tedious otherwise, right?
With a map showing the spots, the hunt properly began. It became a mission. I’d pick a section of the map, usually Los Santos first, and just go down the list.
- Drove all over the place, from the fancy Vinewood Hills down to the docks.
- Searched high and low. Some were easy, right on a storefront.
- Climbed dumpsters, hopped fences, checked under bridges and overpasses.
- Scoured alleyways and backlots. You really gotta look everywhere.
Some of these spots were sneaky. I remember one was way out in the desert, on the side of some easily missed building. Another was tucked away in a tunnel entrance. Had to get out the car, walk around, sometimes even use the Snapmatic phone camera to zoom in and spot ’em before taking the proper picture for credit.

The Long Haul and the Last Tag
It took a good few sessions, just driving from marker to marker, hopping out, snapping a pic, hopping back in. Music on the radio helped pass the time. Some were clustered together, others were miles apart out in Blaine County. Had to go up mountains, check out barns, look around the Alamo Sea. It felt like a proper, if slightly weird, tour of the whole map.
Finding that 50th tag… gotta say, it was a relief. Just this sense of “Okay, done that now.” Then you get the notification, mission passed. Space Monkey challenged, or whatever it says.
The reward? Well, you unlock some… interesting monkey outfits for Trevor. And Franklin gets that Go Go Monkey Blista car delivered to his garage. It’s bright orange, got monkey stuff all over it. Kinda ridiculous, but hey, it’s unique.
Was it worth the effort? Eh, it’s one of those 100% completion things. Satisfying to finish, definitely. But it’s a grind, make no mistake. Just driving, stopping, snapping, repeat. Glad I did it once, probably wouldn’t go out of my way to do it again. But seeing that counter hit 50/50 felt pretty good, gotta admit.
