Alright, let me tell you about this little project I got myself into. So, I’m kinda into old racing stuff, and I stumbled upon this classic – the F1 1961 Lotus Climax. Man, what a beauty! I just had to get my hands dirty and learn all I could about this car.
I started digging around, you know, just browsing through whatever info I could find online. Turns out, this car has quite the history. It was used by Team Lotus and also this other team, Rob Walker Racing Team, back in ’61. And get this, it was the first Lotus car to ever win a Formula One Grand Prix! That’s some serious bragging rights.
I found out that the 1961 season was a big deal. I mean, this guy Phil Hill won the Drivers’ Championship for Ferrari. He won two out of eight races and ended up with 34 points. It was a nail-biter because Wolfgang von Trips was right behind him, just one point less. I read that Hill’s win was a bit bittersweet ’cause von Trips, who was his teammate, had a fatal crash during the Italian Grand Prix. Man, racing was wild back then!
Also, I learned that this wasn’t just any race car. It has a chassis numbered 937 and was allocated to this young driver named Jim Clark. This guy was no joke, he took the 937 and scored his very first F1 victories. Can you imagine being him? Winning races in such an iconic car?

This whole thing got me super pumped. I decided I had to see this car in action, or at least some footage of it. I went through some old videos, you know, the grainy black and white stuff, and it was like stepping back in time. There it was, the Lotus 21, tearing up the track. It was just incredible.
After all this digging and watching, I felt like I kinda lived through that 1961 season myself. It was such a cool experience to learn about the Lotus Climax and all the stories around it. I even started looking into model kits and stuff – might try building one myself. Who knows?
