So, the McLaren F1. It’s just one of those cars, isn’t it? Been obsessed since I first saw pictures way back when. I’ve got a small collection of diecast models, nothing too crazy, but I realised I didn’t have the F1. Seemed like a massive gap on my shelf. So, I decided, right, gotta find one.

I spent maybe a week or two casually browsing, getting a bit frustrated. Felt like I was looking for a needle in a haystack. Then, I stumbled across one on a second-hand marketplace site. Wasn’t brand new, the seller was upfront about that, said it had been displayed but was in good condition. The pictures looked alright. It was a brand I recognised, known for pretty decent mid-range stuff.
Decision time. It wasn’t perfect, maybe a tiny scuff mentioned in the description, but the price was right, and honestly, I was tired of looking. Sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger, you know? So, I contacted the seller, asked a couple of quick questions, felt okay about it, and bought it.
Arrival and First Look
Then came the waiting game. Always hate that part. Felt longer than it probably was. Anyway, the parcel finally showed up. Box was a little dented on one corner, my heart sank a bit, but it was well-packed inside.
I carefully got the model out. First impression? Decent weight to it. Always a good sign, feels less like a toy. Looked it over closely. Yeah, the seller was honest, tiny mark on the rear wing, barely noticeable unless you were really hunting for it. But otherwise? Pretty sweet. The paint job was clean, the proportions looked right. The doors opened, which is always a fun little feature. For what I paid, I was genuinely happy.
On the Shelf
Cleaned off a spot on my main display shelf, right between a Jag XJ220 and an old Bugatti EB110. It just looked right sitting there. Filled that gap perfectly. Every time I walk past, I catch a glimpse of it. Makes me smile.
