Alright, so I was rummaging through some old thoughts the other day, and the 2011-12 EPL season just popped into my head. You know the one, absolutely bonkers finish. I got this urge, a real need, to just see that final league table again. How did all those teams end up after all that drama?
Getting Started – The Usual First Step
So, first thing, I sat down at my computer. Didn’t have any fancy databases or anything, just me and the internet. I punched in something like “epl ladder 2011 12” or “Premier League table 2011 to 2012.” Simple enough, right? Well, sort of.
You get a flood of results, as always. Some sites looked a bit messy, you know, cluttered with ads or just not showing the old stuff properly. I wasn’t looking for current scores, I wanted that specific year, frozen in time.
Digging for the Real Deal
I spent a bit of time clicking around. My main thing was to find a source that felt, well, reliable. Not just some random fan page, but something that looked like it kept proper records. I think I found a couple of well-known sports statistics sites. I tend to trust those a bit more.
I actually opened two different ones in separate tabs. Just to be sure, I quickly compared the top few teams and their points. If they matched, I figured I was on the right track. It’s a bit like checking your work, even for something simple like this.
Jotting It Down – My Simple Method
Once I was happy I had the goods, I didn’t do anything complicated. No fancy software. I just opened up a plain text document. Sometimes I use a basic spreadsheet, but for this, a text file was fine. I started listing the teams from top to bottom.
I made sure to grab the key bits of info for each team:
- Played Games (P)
- Wins (W)
- Draws (D)
- Losses (L)
- Goals For (GF)
- Goals Against (GA)
- Goal Difference (GD)
- And of course, the Points (Pts)
Seeing it all laid out, especially that goal difference column, really brought it back. Manchester City at the top. And then Manchester United right there with them on points. Just incredible. That ‘+8’ goal difference for City, that was everything.
Memories Flooding Back
As I was typing it out, it wasn’t just about the numbers. I remembered the Aguero goal, obviously. Who could forget that? But also seeing where other teams finished. Arsenal up there, Spurs too, always battling. And Chelsea, they had a funny league season that year but won the Champions League, didn’t they? Mad stuff.
Then you scroll down and see the teams that got relegated. Blackburn Rovers, Bolton, Wolves. Always a bit sad to see established clubs go down, but that’s football for you. It’s brutal.
Why Bother? Well…
So yeah, that was my little project. Just digging up an old league table. Took me maybe half an hour, an hour tops. It’s not like I discovered anything new, the data’s out there. But for me, it was about revisiting that specific moment in time. Satisfying in a way, to have it all there, neat and tidy, the way I recorded it.
Now I’ve got that little text file saved. Next time someone brings up that season, I’ve got the facts right there. It’s the little things, eh?
