Is Griffith Park Harding a Good Golf Course? Find Out Why So Many Golfers Really Enjoy It.

Alright, so I figured I’d share what I got up to the other day. I went over to check out Griffith Park Harding. You hear things, people talk about different courses, and I just wanted to lay my own eyes on it. Not like I’m a pro or anything, don’t get me wrong, just pure curiosity driving me, I guess.

Getting There and First Impressions

So, the plan was set: head to Harding. Getting there, well, it’s LA, right? You pretty much expect a bit of a crawl on the roads, and that day didn’t disappoint. Took a while, navigated through the usual mess, and finally made it to the part of Griffith Park where Harding is tucked away. That park is massive, by the way. Easy to take a wrong turn if you’re not paying attention.

First thing that hit me? It’s a golf course. So, yeah, green. Lots of it. But it had this… I don’t know, a real old-school feel to it. Not in a fancy, polished way, but more like it’s seen its fair share of golfers, sun, and seasons. You could tell it’s a public spot, gets a lot of traffic. Some areas looked decent, others, well, they looked well-loved, let’s put it that way. It’s clearly been a fixture for a long, long time.

What I Did and Saw

I wasn’t kitted out to play a full round or anything. Didn’t have the gear with me, and honestly, wasn’t in the mood for that whole commitment. My mission was more of a look-see. So, I moseyed around the main clubhouse area. Watched a few groups teeing off. It’s always a mix, isn’t it? You got the super serious folks, all decked out, every club polished. Then you got the more chill groups, just out to whack a ball and have a laugh. Standard golf course scene, really.

The practice areas seemed pretty active. Lots of people working on their short game, trying to sink those putts. I even spotted a couple of families out, kids trying to get the hang of it. That was kinda nice to see. Shows it’s not just for the hardcore players, you know?

I spent a good chunk of time just standing back and observing. The flow of people, the rhythm of the game. You hear that constant thwack of club hitting ball. It’s a unique sound. Either you find it relaxing or it drives you nuts. For me, that day, it was just background noise to the whole experience.

One thing that really stood out was just the sheer scale of the place. Course after course, stretching out over those rolling hills. It’s easy to forget you’re smack bang in the middle of a massive city. Then you catch a glimpse of the downtown skyline way off in the distance, and it’s like, oh yeah, still in LA.

A Few Last Thoughts

I didn’t swing a club myself this time around. Maybe another day I’ll hit the driving range, assuming it’s not a madhouse to get a spot. You know how those places can be – sometimes it feels like you need to book a week in advance just to hit a bucket of balls.

It did get me thinking though. All these people, spending hours, chasing this little white ball around. It’s a funny old game when you boil it down. But hey, everyone’s got their hobby, their escape, right? My thing that afternoon was just to wander, observe, and soak it in a bit.

So, that was my little expedition to Griffith Park Harding. Wasn’t exactly an earth-shattering revelation or anything. Just another piece of the LA puzzle I hadn’t really seen up close before. Sometimes, just getting out and seeing something new, even if it’s just a local golf course, is all you need. A decent way to spend an afternoon, I’d say.
