So, I found myself going down a bit of a rabbit hole with this name, Harriet Sloane. It wasn’t for anything super important, you know, just one of those things that gets stuck in your head and you feel like you gotta figure it out. I think I heard it mentioned offhand somewhere, or maybe read it in some old notes, and it just sort of…lingered.
Anyway, I decided to do a bit of digging. My first stop, like for most folks these days, was the internet. Typed “Harriet Sloane” into the search bar. And wow, what a mix! I got a whole bunch of results. So many different Harriet Sloanes. There was an artist, a writer from way back, someone who owned a shop in the 1950s, even a character in a book, I think. It was a real jumble. No clear picture, just bits and pieces that didn’t quite fit together.
I spent a good few hours clicking through links, trying to see if any of them matched the vague idea I had in my mind. It was like trying to find one specific grain of sand on a whole beach. Frustrating, to say the least. I even tried different spellings, thinking maybe I’d gotten it wrong. That didn’t help much either, just added more confusion to the pile.
Then I thought, okay, maybe I need to go old school. Started thinking about libraries, archives, that sort of thing. I even made a few calls, asked around. Sometimes, you just don’t get the neat answer you’re looking for. And that’s okay, I guess. The trying part, the digging, that can be its own kind of journey, even if you end up back where you started, just a little more thoughtful about how things get lost, or how hard it can be to find one specific truth in a whole world of noise.
