Getting on the Kelce Fan Bus – My Little Adventure

So, this whole “fan bus Kelce” thing. Yeah, I got roped into that. Or rather, I let myself get roped in. You hear about these things, right? A bunch of fans, a bus, a road trip to see the main man himself. Sounds like a recipe for chaos, and trust me, I’ve seen my share of chaotic fan outings.

How It All Started

It began pretty innocently. I saw a post on some local forum. “Kelce Fan Bus to the Game!” My first thought? “Oh, here we go.” Visions of disorganized meetups, people being late, someone inevitably forgetting their ticket. But then, a little voice said, “Well, could be a laugh.” I’m not getting any younger, and sometimes you just gotta say yes to the slightly ridiculous. So, I reached out, just to see what the deal was. Found out a couple of younger folks were trying to get it off the ground, full of enthusiasm but maybe not a ton of experience in herding, well, fans.

The “Planning” – If You Can Call It That

I decided to just go with the flow, maybe offer a hand if things looked like they were about to implode. And boy, did they wobble a bit. Trying to get a firm headcount was like nailing jelly to a wall. Then the pickup points! Everyone had an opinion. “Too early!” “Too far!” We eventually settled on a spot that was inconvenient for pretty much everyone, which, in a weird way, made it fair. I remember sitting in on one “planning call” – it was mostly just three people talking over each other about snack preferences.

  • First, we needed to figure out who was serious. I suggested a small deposit. Amazing how a bit of cash sorts the talkers from the doers. We collected a few bucks from everyone who swore they were in.
  • Then, the bus. I helped look around, called a few places. Found a company willing to deal with a bunch of excited (and potentially loud) fans. They must have seen it all before. Got a quote, divided it up.
  • Snacks and drinks. Oh, the great snack debate. We ended up with a mountain of chips and way too many bottles of water. Classic. I mostly stayed out of that one, just brought my own sandwich.

The Ride and The Game

The day came. I showed up at the designated inconvenient spot. The bus was surprisingly on time. We all piled in. It was…cozy. Like, really cozy. Someone had made a “Kelce’s Greatest Hits” playlist, which was mostly just game commentary and a few pop songs that I guess he might listen to? Different, I’ll give them that. The energy, though, you couldn’t knock it. Everyone was buzzing, sharing stories about their favorite plays.

We got to the stadium, navigated the crowds. Our seats weren’t exactly front row, more like “Is-that-a-player-or-a-very-enthusiastic-ant?” row. But it didn’t matter. The roar of the crowd, seeing Kelce actually out there doing his thing, it was pretty cool. Even managed to witness one of those signature catches. The bus was buzzing even more on the way back, despite the team not pulling off a win. Or maybe because of it – shared misery, you know? People were already planning the “next one.”

So, Was It Worth It?

Look, these things are never perfect. Someone spilled soda all down the aisle. We got stuck in traffic for an age. I think I left my lucky scarf on the bus – still a bit gutted about that. But yeah, it was worth it. There’s something about these shared experiences, even the slightly messy ones. You meet people, you laugh, you shout until you’re hoarse. It’s the doing of it, the shared silliness.

It reminds me of this one time, years ago, totally different thing. I was trying to get this community garden project off the ground in my old neighborhood. Everyone had ideas, everyone wanted to be involved, but getting actual shovels in the dirt? Nightmare. We had meetings about meetings. Debates about what kind of fertilizer to use that got surprisingly heated. I almost threw in the towel so many times. Thought it was a lost cause, just like I initially thought this fan bus might be – a lot of talk, no action.

But then, one Saturday, a handful of us just showed up and started digging. And slowly, others joined. It was messy, we made mistakes, planted some things upside down probably. But it grew. That garden is still there, by the way, thriving. This fan bus thing, it wasn’t planting vegetables, but it had that same chaotic, human energy. You gotta wade through a bit of the mess to get to the good stuff. And sometimes, the mess is part of the good stuff, part of the memory. So yeah, the Kelce bus. I’d probably do it again. Maybe. If I find that scarf, or at least a good replacement.
