My First Attempt at Evolving Qwilfish
So I opened Pokémon GO yesterday thinking “how hard can evolving Qwilfish be?” I remembered needing candy like most evolutions. Had around 30 Qwilfish candies already from past catches, so I went hunting near my local park. Spotted two Qwilfish by the duck pond – used Pinap berries both times to double the candy drops. Easy peasy, hit 50 candies before lunch.
The Confusing Part
Tapped on my best Qwilfish expecting the evolve button to light up… nothing. Grayed out! Felt super confused. Checked online forums – realized Qwilfish needs buddy tasks now? Since when? Game updates mess with my head sometimes. Made the fish my buddy immediately.
The Battle Grind
Next step was doing 10 charged attacks in gym battles. Headed downtown where gyms cluster. My strategy:
- Picked weak gyms with Chansey/Blissey defenders
- Swapped in Qwilfish first in party
- Spammed Water Pulse move like crazy
- Key trick: Swiped left-right super fast when charge meter filled
Messy fights though. Got knocked out twice when defenders used charge moves unexpectedly. Took three different gym battles to finally hit 10 charged attacks total.
Finally Evolving!
Saw the little medal icon pop up above Qwilfish’s head after last battle. Checked buddy screen – yup, task completed! The evolve button was finally yellow. Hit that button instantly. Watched the funky evolution animation to Overqwil. Felt pretty satisfying after all that running around town.
Pro tip: Do this during raid hours when gyms are busy. Saw way more defenders rotating when raids were active. Would’ve saved me 45 minutes of gym hopping!
