How I cracked Torino’s rollercoaster season
Okay so Torino’s league position this season was driving me nuts – up and down like a yoyo. I grabbed my notebook last Saturday morning and decided to track every tiny shift in their table position since August. First thing? I pulled up last season’s final standings on my laptop to compare points totals.
Then I hit the Serie A website and started scrolling through match weeks one by one. Manually logging every single result:
- Where they were positioned after each match
- Points difference from European spots
- Points above relegation zone
My coffee got cold three times during this – that’s how long it took. Discovered they had this crazy pattern: lose to small clubs, then suddenly beat top teams. Like that random 2-0 against Milan right after losing to Empoli! Made zero sense until I drew arrows between results in my notebook.
The real shocker came when I color-coded streaks: red for losses, green for wins. Turned out they’d alternate between three-match unbeaten runs and four-match winless slumps all season. Explains why they’ve been stuck in 9th-11th place since Christmas!
Nearly threw my pen when I noticed their goals column. Blanked in 12 matches but scored 3+ goals five times. How’s that even possible for a mid-table team? Took me ages to realize their xG stats were actually decent – just cursed with terrible finishing when it mattered.
Finished up by comparing their current point total to last five seasons at this stage. Guess what? Almost identical to last year’s 10th place finish. All that movement for basically no progress. Wild stuff.
