Okay, so I’ve been grinding light bowgun lately, right? Kept getting my butt kicked by monsters. Felt like I was just tickling them. Decided to test every damn ammo type properly – none of that theory nonsense, just me, my bowgun, and angry lizards.
Starting Point: The Hot Mess
First, I grabbed my Narga bowgun – solid rapid-fire options. Didn’t even think about ammo type, just loaded Normal 2 like a noob. Went after a lowly Kulu-Ya-Ku. You know what happened? Took forever to kill. Like, embarrassing forever. Ran out of ammo twice. Monster fell asleep twice before dying. Nope. Done with that crap.
The Testing Grind
Wrote down six ammo types to test on Rathian. Same monster every time, same gear. Here’s the breakdown:
1. Pierce Ammo: Loaded up level 2 pierce. Shot her from the back while she charged. Bullet ripped through tail to head. Numbers popping everywhere! Tail broke in five shots. Downside? Wasted shots when she got close. Decent for long boys like Diablos.
2. Spread Ammo: Tried Spread 3. Had to be RIGHT in her face. Almost fainted twice. But holy hell – rapid-firing into her nose? Staggered her faster than my last Tinder date ghosted me. Melted health bars up close.
3. Sticky Ammo: Aimed at Rathian’s dome. Pop pop pop – three Stickies stuck to her forehead. BOOM. Knocked her flat. Felt glorious… until I realized I burned through all my blastnuts after two hunts. Sustain sucks, but dat stun power!
4. Slicing Ammo: Needed that tail cut, right? Slicing shreds tails fast. Sawed it off before she even flew once! BUT… only carried 30 shots. Tail dropped, but had to finish her with backup ammo. Specialized but clutch.
5. Elemental (Fire/Ice): Fought Jyuratodus with Ice ammo since he hates ice. Absolutely wrecked his mud armor. Then tried Fire on Barroth – useless pinging sounds. Huge damage ONLY if you match weaknesses.
6. Cluster Bombs: Look, heavy bowgun mains love these. Tried it anyway. One shot – massive explosions! Then the recoil locked me in place. Rathian roasted me while I was stuck. Light bowguns? Don’t even bother.
The Real Deal Dominators
After carving all those Rathian parts, here’s what sticks:
- Pierce when monsters stretch long (hello Bazelgeuse belly!)
- Spread for kamikaze face-melting runs
- Elemental if you memorized monster weaknesses
Sticky’s fun but burns resources. Slicing? Keep it just for tails. Clusters? Just no.
Swapped between Piercе against flying wyverns and Spread for chicken-walks like Rajang. Fewer carts, faster clears. Proved one thing: ammo choice makes or breaks LBG runs. Now go bully some monsters with this!
