So, I’ve been trying to get my hands on these “Second Chance points” in Final Fantasy XIV. I heard it was a good thing to have, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey.

I started by just queuing up for duties randomly. I figured, “Hey, maybe I’ll get lucky and end up with someone new.” I did a few leveling roulettes, some trial roulettes, even a few normal raids. I kept running into people who already knew the ropes. It was a bit of a grind, but I wasn’t giving up.
After a while, I started to wonder if there was a better way. I saw some people in the Party Finder looking for groups specifically for first-timers or people who needed clears. That seemed like a good idea, but I didn’t have much luck finding those groups when I was playing.
Then, I remembered something about this “Wondrous Tails” thing. I looked it up and found out I needed to do some level 60 quest called “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs”. I finally found this guy called the “Unctuous Adventurer” in Idyllshire, did his quest, and unlocked Wondrous Tails.
Now, Wondrous Tails gives you a journal each week with a bunch of duties. If you complete them, you get seals, and if you get enough seals in a row, you get rewards. That’s where the Second Chance points come in handy. I learned that you can use them to either retry a duty you already did or shuffle the seals in your journal to try to get a better lineup.
I ended up spending my points on retrying duties. Basically, I would pick a duty I didn’t really feel like doing, and then use a point to mark it as complete while marking a completed duty as incomplete. Then, I would just do the one I already did again. It felt a little like cheating the system, but hey, it worked!

I know some people use their points to shuffle the seals, but I figured I’d rather just do a duty twice than risk getting a worse setup. It all depends on what you prefer, I guess.
Anyway, that’s my story about Second Chance points. It took some time and effort, but I finally figured it out. Hopefully, my experience can help some of you out there who are also trying to get your hands on these things!
- Queued up for random duties.
- Tried leveling, trial, and normal raid roulettes.
- Looked for “first-time” groups in Party Finder.
- Unlocked Wondrous Tails by completing “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs”.
- Used Second Chance points to “Retry” duties.
- Marked undesired duties as complete and re-ran completed ones.
The Upshot
It’s a bit of a process, but it’s worth it in the end. Just keep at it, and you’ll be swimming in Second Chance points before you know it!
