So today I was just surfing around, thinking about some folks I used to chat with back in the day. Remembered this guy Guillermo Perez—real sharp dude who knew his stuff about sustainable architecture. Got curious about what he’s up to now.
Starting the Search
First thing I did? Opened up Instagram and typed “Guillermo Perez” into the search bar. Scrolled through maybe thirty profiles – architects, photographers, even a salsa dancer. None matched the guy I knew. Tried adding keywords like “architecture” and “sustainability” after his name too. Dead end. Figured he might not be active there.
Hopped over to Twitter next. Same deal: searched his name, clicked profiles one by one. Found a few academics and journalists, but no trace of “my” Guillermo. Felt like hitting a wall. Then it hit me – maybe LinkedIn? Honestly shoulda started there, but hey, old habits die hard.
Getting Warmer
Logged into LinkedIn and punched his name in again. Boom – pages of results, mostly random connections. Refined it with filters: added our old mutual connections under “Connections of,” then threw in our old university. Got fewer results but still not him. Felt stuck.
Took a break, grabbed coffee. Came back and dug through my dusty email contacts. Found an old newsletter Guillermo sent years ago mentioning a LinkedIn Group he moderated. Searched that exact group name on LinkedIn – found it! Scanned the member list page by page… and bingo! There he was, profile pic from that conference in Barcelona where we met. Clicked that ‘Connect’ button so fast.
Extra Checks
For good measure, I ran a quick Facebook search (no profile) and skimmed a couple architecture forums using his email address. Found one old post about bamboo construction materials – definitely his style. Tried YouTube with his name + some project keywords too, but nothing popped up. Seems LinkedIn’s his main spot.
Lesson learned? Searching folks ain’t always smooth. Gotta:
- Try multiple sites – people scatter footprints everywhere
- Use real details like shared friends or old groups
- Be ready for dead ends and backtrack
Took some digging, but finally reconnected. Worth every second.
