My Frustrating Morning
So today I totally blanked on when Minnesota’s primary election is happening this year, 2024. Needed to know ASAP to plan some stuff. Figured it would be easy, right? Spoiler: It kinda sucked at first.

First thing, I grabbed my phone. Didn’t even use my laptop because lazy. Went straight to the search bar and typed “minnesota election 2024”. Hit enter feeling confident.
Big mistake.
Scrolled through pages filled with:
- Old news about past elections (like, why?).
- Generic voting guides with zero dates.
- Ads for candidates (who asked?).
Felt like I was digging through a pile of junk mail. Started wondering if the date was some big secret. Seriously annoying.
Waking Up My Brain
Almost gave up but then remembered: Official stuff lives on official websites. Duh. Tried searching for “minnesota secretary of state”.

First result looked promising. Clicked it. Finally, a website that looked like, you know, the government actually runs it.
Looked around for an “Elections” tab. Found it! Clicked that, hoping for a nice clear “2024 Dates” headline.
Nope. Instead, landed on a page full of links. Saw stuff about voter registration, absentee ballots… just general election info. Still no actual date.
Started clicking links kinda randomly. “Upcoming Elections”? No dates. “Election Calendar”? Yes! Clicked it.
The Actual Simple Steps
Success! Found a clear list.

Scrolled down looking for “Primary Election” under 2024. Boom. There it was. Simple as pie once I hit the right spot.
Here’s what actually worked:
- Go to the Minnesota Secretary of State website. This is the source. Forget blogs or news sites for the basic date.
- Find the “Elections & Voting” section. Usually a big menu link near the top.
- Look for “Election Calendar” or “Key Dates”. Click that, find 2024, and find “State Primary”.
The date was Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Bookmarked that calendar page immediately. Lesson learned: Skip the hassle next time, go straight to the state .gov website. Searched for like 10 minutes, but finding the answer took less than a minute on the right site.
