Starting Out with a Simple Plan
So I woke up yesterday dead set on getting shiny Skrelp fast. Everybody says it takes weeks, but I figured there’s gotta be tricks. Started my Switch around 9 AM with just coffee and stubbornness.
Failed Tactics First
Grabbed my Japanese Ditto from storage and tried Masuda breeding first. Got 30 eggs hatching while watching Netflix. Two hours later? Zero shinies. My finger hurt from biking circles. Waste of time.
Then I camped near Giant’s Cap coast to chain encounters. Knocked out about 80 Skrelps – broke the chain FOUR times because Wingulls kept spawning. Rage-quit after my lure wore off with nothing purple.
What Actually Worked
After lunch I checked shiny hunting forums. One comment said “Just outbreak hunt bro.” So I reset my clock to force Skrelp outbreaks. Spent 40 minutes closing/reopening the game till the outbreak icon showed.

When the outbreak spawned:
- Saved right before entering the area
- Went rambo knocking out every Skrelp visible
- Counted precisely – KO’ed exactly 60 before stopping
- Then just stood still letting them respawn
- Popped a shiny charm I had from last year
Took less than 10 minutes after the initial KOs! Suddenly this weird purple blob appeared floating sideways. My hands actually shook pressing ZL to throw the net. Caught it in a repeat ball first try.
Final Thoughts
Outbreaks are broken for this thing. Masuda breeding? Forget it. Encounter chains near water? Too messy. Got two MORE shiny Skrelps using this method before dinner – all while doing laundry between respawns. Easiest shinies I’ve hunted.
Only thing that sucks? Now I’ve got nine purple doofus fish cluttering my boxes. Still worth it.
