So, I wanted to make my Facebook profile a bit more private, right? I was messing around with the settings, trying to figure out how to do that. I started digging into the account settings, clicking on anything that was related to “privacy” or “profile visibility.” There were so many options, it was a bit overwhelming! I saw something about “hiding” my profile, and “locking” my profile, but I wasn’t sure what either of those really meant.
- Hide your profile: I found out that when I hide my profile, I can choose who sees it. It seems useful when I don’t want others to see my activity. But I couldn’t figure out how to do this.
- Deactivate or delete my account: I read that deactivating or deleting the account would make the profile disappear and invisible. This felt a bit drastic to me, but I thought maybe it was the solution.
- Pause the account: This was also an option. It said that I can’t send any likes or receive them because the app will not show my profile. It seemed too complicated because I still wanted to use my account.
- Turn off Active Status: I learned that I could turn off my Active Status. This would prevent my friends from knowing when I’m active. I did this part, but I still wanted to achieve more than this.
- Lock the profile: This option sounded promising. It says that it limits what users who aren’t my friends see on my profile. But I couldn’t figure out how to do this as well.
I also noticed an option to pause my account. When you pause it, you can’t send or receive any likes, and your profile basically disappears from the app. It’s like going into hibernation mode. The problem was that, I couldn’t do any of the actions above. I was stuck in the mud!
Then there’s something called “Active Status.” This thing shows your friends when you’re online or when you were recently active. I turned that off, but it didn’t really do what I wanted. It’s like turning off your “read receipts” on a messaging app – it doesn’t make you invisible.
I learned there was this thing called “locking” your profile. The idea is that it limits what people who aren’t your friends can see. It sounded like what I was looking for. However, just like before, I couldn’t lock my profile.
A Dead End
I spent hours trying different combinations of settings, but nothing seemed to work. It felt like I was going in circles. I even considered deactivating my account for a while, but then I wouldn’t be able to use Facebook at all! In the end, I realized that no matter what I did, I couldn’t completely hide my profile. It’s like Facebook wants to keep you in the spotlight, whether you like it or not.
