So, I was just browsing the web today, trying to find some news about Walton, you know, the guy who founded Walmart. I mean, this dude started a business empire. Anyway, I was curious about what type of cancer he had.
I started by googling, of course. The first few results were all about Bill Walton, the NBA player. Turns out, this Bill Walton died recently from colon cancer. There was even a New York Times article about it. But this was not what I was looking for. I was searching for the founder of Walmart, not a basketball player.
I kept digging. Some sources were saying the founder Walton didn’t have cancer at all. There were rumors and misconceptions, apparently. Then, I found something about him having some kind of blood cancer called hairy cell leukemia. It was mentioned that he had been going to Houston for treatment since 1982. This type of cancer attacks white blood cells. That sounded serious. But there was more to it.
Another source claimed he also had multiple myeloma, which is a bone marrow cancer. They said his leukemia was in remission, but then he was diagnosed with myeloma in 1989. A doctor named Barlogie treated him.
Finally, I found some background information about this guy. His full name was Samuel Moore Walton. He was born in 1918 and died in 1992. He founded Walmart and Sam’s Club in the 1960s and 1980s.
So, from what I gathered, it seems like Walton battled two types of cancer:
- Hairy-cell leukemia
- Multiple myeloma
It’s kind of sad, really. This guy built a retail giant, but he was fighting these diseases for years. I learned that cancer near the seminal vesicle and urethra can be of many types, such as small cell carcinoma. But it seems that Walton’s cancer was mainly related to his blood and bone marrow.
