Okay, so I’ve been sinking some serious time into Dragon’s Dogma 2 lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I decided to roll with a Mage this time around, figured I’d try my hand at slinging spells instead of hacking and slashing. Boy, was that a learning curve!

First off, I started as a Fighter. Yeah, I know, not a Mage. But hear me out! The Fighter vocation gives you a bit more health and defense, and let me tell you, early on, Mages are squishy. Like, really squishy. So I spent a bit of time as a Fighter, leveling up and getting a feel for the game. I smacked some goblins around, got comfortable with the combat, you know, the usual.
Once I felt like I could survive a stiff breeze, I switched over to Mage. And that’s when things got interesting. I quickly learned that positioning is key. Stand in the back, let your Pawns take the hits, and rain down fire from a safe distance. Or, well, try to. Aiming those spells is a whole other challenge!
Gear-wise, I scrimped and saved every gold piece I could find, and you know what? It was tough. Finally, I got myself that Goblin Bane staff. 25000G, man, that hurt. But let me tell you, it was worth every coin. The damage boost is insane! Suddenly, those goblins that were giving me trouble? Toast. Literally.
Then I found it. The Eminent Coat. This thing is a game-changer for early-game Mages. It’s like wearing a fortress. Okay, maybe not a fortress, but it’s got some serious defense and, get this, a ton of Magick defense. Plus, it makes you way more resistant to fire. Which, given the number of fire-breathing lizards in this game, is pretty darn useful. Even better this clothing gives me some good resistances.
- Skills: I experimented a lot here. Palladium and Halidom, those are your bread and butter. Palladium soaks up damage, and Halidom is your main heal.
- Offense: I went with a mix. Fire for the big damage, some ice for crowd control, you know, the classics. Honestly, I’m still figuring out the best combo, but these seemed to work pretty well.
My Mage is shaping up to be a real support powerhouse!
It’s a tough road, but I’m starting to get the hang of it. My Mage is shaping up to be a real support powerhouse, keeping my Pawns alive and dishing out some serious elemental pain. Still a long way to go, but hey, that’s half the fun, right? It’s all about the journey, not just the destination. I’m just a guy who loves sharing the experience to help others!
