Okay, guys, so today I wanna talk about this movie, “Oz the Great and Powerful.” I finally got around to watching it, and let me tell you, it was quite the ride.

First off, I had to figure out where to even watch this thing. Turns out, it became available on Disney+ on November 29th. It’s also available to rent from various platforms. So, I subscribed to Disney+, logged in, and searched for the movie. Easy peasy.
The movie starts, and we’re introduced to this Oscar Diggs guy, a small-time magician in a circus. He’s a bit of a con artist, not exactly the most likable character, you know? But then, boom, he gets whisked away to the Land of Oz in a hot air balloon during a crazy storm. I actually jumped when that happened, not gonna lie.
In Oz, he meets these three witches. Now, they think he’s some great wizard who’s supposed to fulfill a prophecy and save them all. Initially, Oscar plays along, I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a powerful wizard, right?
Here’s where it gets interesting:
- He goes on this journey with a talking monkey and a porcelain doll.
- There’s a lot of talk about good versus evil, and who the real wicked witch is.
- Oscar, or Oz as he’s now known, has to use his illusionist tricks to make everyone believe he’s this powerful wizard.
The whole movie is building up to this big confrontation with the evil witch. And let me tell you, the special effects are pretty cool. Oz creates this whole spectacle with smoke and mirrors, making himself look like a giant, powerful being. He even projects his face onto a plume of smoke and announces he’s shedding his mortal body to become the true Wizard of Oz. It’s all very dramatic and over-the-top, but it works.

In the end, Oz becomes the ruler of, well, Oz. It’s kind of a bittersweet ending because he’s still a bit of a fraud, but he’s also learned to be a better person. He’s not perfect, but he’s trying. He is chosen to be a better man.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, the movie is a fun watch. It’s a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” so it’s cool to see the backstory of how the Wizard came to be. It’s not a perfect movie, but it’s entertaining, and the visuals are stunning. Plus, it made me want to revisit the original “Wizard of Oz” movie, which is always a classic. I watched it with my little brother, and he really enjoyed it. Especially the big, scary Oz head. That was his favorite part.
So yeah, if you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly movie with some cool special effects, give “Oz the Great and Powerful” a try. Just don’t expect it to be exactly like the original. It’s its own thing, and that’s okay.
Oh, and if you are a fan of Sam Raimi, you’ll probably appreciate the movie, some folks are actually revisiting it because of the release of “Wicked.”

Alright, that’s it for my movie review. Let me know in the comments if you’ve seen it and what you thought! Later!
