Okay, so, I was chilling the other day, and this random thought popped into my head: “What are the lyrics to the Mexican national anthem?” I mean, I’ve heard it played at soccer games and stuff, but I never really paid attention to the words. So, I decided to dive in and find out.
First thing I did was hit up Google. I just typed in “himno de mexico lyrics” and boom, a bunch of results showed up. I clicked on a couple of them, skimmed through the info, and started to get a sense of what this anthem was all about.
Turns out, it’s called “Himno Nacional Mexicano” in Spanish, which is pretty straightforward – “Mexican National Anthem.” But a lot of sites also called it “Mexicanos, al grito de guerra,” which translates to “Mexicans, at the cry of war.” That sounded way more intense, so I was intrigued.
I started piecing together the lyrics from different sites. Some had them in Spanish, others in English, and some had both. It was a bit of a puzzle, but I managed to get the full lyrics in both languages. Here they are:

I also found out that when the anthem is played, people put their right hands on their chests in a salute. It’s called the “saludo a la bandera,” which means “salute to the flag.” Kind of a cool gesture, I thought.
After all this digging, I felt like I’d learned a lot. It wasn’t just some song I heard in the background anymore. It had history, meaning, and even a special salute to go with it. It’s always fun to learn something new, especially when it starts with a random thought. I think I’m going to listen to it again, now that I actually know what it’s about. It’s pretty cool to think about all those people singing it together, with their hands on their chests, showing their pride for their country.
