Okay, so today I wanna talk about my experience with Martins, specifically about getting that sharp all sound I’ve been chasing. It’s been a journey, lemme tell ya!
It all started a few months back. I was playing my old guitar, and I just wasn’t feeling it anymore. I mean, the sound was okay, but I knew there was something more out there, something… sharper. So, I started doing some digging.
First, I went down the rabbit hole of online forums and reviews. I read about all these different Martin models, trying to figure out which one would give me that sound I was after. I read about the D-10e, the 0-15, the D-X2E, and a bunch of others. It was a lot to take in, honestly.
- I started hitting up some local music stores. I played a bunch of different Martins, some new, some old, some used. Some of them were pretty good, but none of them were quite right.
- Then, I started talking to other guitar players. I asked them about their experiences with Martins, what models they liked, and what they thought about the whole “sharp all” thing. Some folks told me that all Martin’s have their own sound, some told me that I should consider the smaller Orchestra models.
- One guy told me about how Martin ships their guitars with a high saddle, which I thought was interesting. He said it gives you the option to lower it yourself if you want. I’m no guitar tech, but I figured I could give it a shot.
- After a while, I stumbled upon a used D-28. This thing was a beast, I saw many people were saying it’s arguably the greatest Martin acoustic ever made. I picked it up and started playing, and right away, I knew this was something special. The sound was huge, but it also had this clarity and sharpness that I hadn’t heard in any of the other guitars.
It was also expensive. But I decided to take the plunge. I took it home, and the first thing I did was mess with the saddle. I lowered it a bit, just to see what would happen. And holy cow, did it make a difference! The action was lower, which made it easier to play, but it also seemed to bring out even more of that sharpness I was looking for.
I’ve been playing this D-28 for a few weeks now, and I’m still blown away by it. The sound is just incredible. It’s got that classic Martin tone, but it’s also got this edge to it, this sharpness, that makes it perfect for my style of playing. I did not know whether they are good or bad guitars before, but now I know why they are so famous.
So, that’s my Martin story. It was a bit of a process, but I’m so glad I went through it. I ended up with an amazing guitar that’s exactly what I was looking for. If you’re thinking about getting a Martin, my advice is to just go for it. Do your research, play a bunch of different models, and don’t be afraid to experiment with the setup. You might just find your perfect guitar, just like I did.
