What’s up, guys! It’s your boy back again with another one. Today, we’re gonna do something a little different, something I’ve been messing around with for a while now. We’re diving deep into the 2016 NBA Draft and completely redoing it. Yeah, you heard that right, a full redraft.
So, I started by looking at the original draft order, you know, who went where. The Philadelphia 76ers had the first pick, and they took Ben Simmons. The Lakers were second and grabbed Brandon Ingram. Then the Celtics at three took Jaylen Brown. A lot of familiar names in that draft. But I thought, what if we could go back and do it all over again, knowing what we know now about these players?
I spent hours, maybe even days, going through player stats, watching old game footage, and just thinking about how these guys have panned out over the years. It’s crazy how much things change, right? Some of these dudes exceeded all expectations, while others, well, they didn’t quite live up to the hype.
My Process
First, I made a list of all the players drafted in 2016. Then, I started digging into their careers. I looked at things like games played, points, rebounds, assists, all that good stuff. But I also considered their impact on their teams, their leadership, and how they’ve improved over time. I was up until 2 a.m last night doing my research. Then, I started moving names around. I put players in different spots based on what I found. It was tough, man. There are some seriously talented guys in this draft class, and it wasn’t easy to decide who should go where.
It really got me thinking, there’s no clear-cut superstar in this draft, no obvious number one pick like you see in some years. But there are a bunch of solid players who have made a real impact in the league. Guys like Jamal Murray, Brandon Ingram, and Pascal Siakam, they’ve all become key players for their teams.
The Redraft
After all that work, I finally came up with my own personal redraft of the 2016 NBA Draft. Here are my top 10 picks based on my research:
