So, I’ve been trying to get this Enshrouded server up and running, but I kept hitting a wall with this annoying “server error 4”. Drove me nuts, honestly. I spent a good chunk of my day trying to figure this out, so I figured I’d share my experience in case anyone else is pulling their hair out over this.

First off, I tried the usual stuff. I mean, everyone says to reboot the server when things go sideways, right? So, I did that. A couple of times, actually. No dice. Still staring at that dreaded error 4.
Then I thought, “Okay, maybe it’s an update issue.” The game’s been getting patched like crazy lately. I made sure both my game client and the server were up to date. I even checked my server settings file to see if anything looked wonky there.
- Checked for updates.
- Verified server settings.
But still no luck, my server was nowhere to be found in the server browser. It is really annoying.
Next up, I tackled the firewall. I’ve had issues with firewalls blocking games before. So, I went in and made sure to create an exception for enshrouded_*. I even tried opening some ports, just in case.
- Created a firewall exception for enshrouded_*
Still nothing. At this point, I was getting pretty frustrated. But I’m stubborn, so I kept digging. I found some people saying that running the server directly from the EnshroudedServer folder instead of through Steam could work. Seemed a bit odd, but I was willing to try anything. I navigated to that folder, found the .exe, and gave it a go.

- Ran the server directly from the EnshroudedServer folder.
And guess what? It actually worked! My friends were able to find the server and join the game. I have no idea why this made a difference, but hey, I’m not complaining.
So, if you’re banging your head against the wall because of “server error 4” in Enshrouded, try running the server directly from its folder. It might just save you a whole lot of trouble.
Hopefully, this helps someone out there. Good luck, and happy gaming!
