The Year was 1988: Andrew Friedmans Path to LA (Dodgers Baseball)

Okay, so I wanted to mess around with recreating that iconic “Andrew Friedman LA 1988” photo. You know, the one with the Dodgers’ President of Baseball Operations looking all cool and ’88? I’m no photography expert, but I figured, why not give it a shot?

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to find some reference images. I did a quick search for “Andrew Friedman LA 1988” and found plenty of copies of the original photo. I studied it closely. You know, the lighting, his pose, the overall vibe. It’s pretty simple, but there’s a definite mood to it.

Setting the Scene

  • Finding the Gear: I don’t have fancy professional camera equipment. I used my regular phone. I Also looked for some similar cloths, a cap, and a jacket to mimic.
  • Location, Location, Location:The original photo is outside, seemingly. I found similar places, tried some poses.
  • Lighting is Key: I played a bit with the exposure settings on my phone, but honestly, it was mostly about finding the right time of day and a good angle.I played around with my standing position and where the sun was hitting me.

Taking the Shots (and Failing a Bunch)

This is where the real “fun” began. I took, like, a million photos. Seriously. Most of them were terrible.

My first attempts were way off. The lighting was bad, my pose was awkward, and I just looked… weird. I kept adjusting things, trying different angles, and generally feeling like a goofball.

The “Aha!” Moment (Sort Of)

Eventually, after what felt like forever, I started to get a few shots that looked… okay. I wouldn’t say they were perfect replicas of the original, but they had a similar feel. I focused on getting the lighting to hit my face in a way that created some shadows, just like in the Friedman photo. I also tried to mimic his relaxed, almost-smirking expression.

Post-Processing (aka Making it Look “Vintage”)

Even the best shots needed some help.I used a photo editing app on my phone.

  • Black and White: First, I converted the photo to black and white.
  • Grain and Texture: Then, I added some grain and texture to give it that old-school film look. I didn’t want it to look too clean and digital.
  • Contrast and Brightness: I played around with the contrast and brightness until it felt right. The original photo has a pretty strong contrast, so I tried to replicate that.
  • Vignette:Finally, I added a slight vignette (darkening the edges of the photo) to further enhance that vintage vibe.

The Final Result

It’s not perfect, and Andrew Friedman has nothing to worry * it gives me my own vibe, I guess.
