Okay, so I’ve been messing around with trying to make a bigger sun visor for my car. The ones that come standard are just…tiny. They never seem to block the sun where I need them to!

First, I took down the original visor. Usually, there are just a couple of screws holding it in place. Super easy.
Figuring Out the Size
I grabbed some cardboard – you know, from one of those delivery boxes everyone has lying around. I held it up to the windshield and started tracing out a bigger shape, kind of eyeballing it to see what would give me better coverage. I wanted something that would extend further down and also a bit wider.
Cutting and Shaping
- I cut out the cardboard shape.
- Then, I used that as a template to cut a piece of thicker, sturdier material. I actually used some of that foam board stuff – it’s light but pretty rigid.
- I played around with bending it a little to match the curve of my windshield. Just a gentle curve, nothing crazy.
Covering It Up
I didn’t want just a plain white visor, so I found some fabric that matched my car’s interior. I wrapped the foam board with the fabric, using some spray adhesive to keep it all smooth and tight. I made sure to wrap the edges around to the back, so it looked nice and finished.
Putting It All Together
The trickiest part was getting it to attach. I ended up using the original visor’s hardware – you know, the little clip thing that holds it to the roof. I carefully removed it from the old visor and then screwed it onto my new, bigger one. It took a bit of fiddling to get it lined up right.
The Final Result
I popped the new visor back into place, and… it works! It’s so much better than the old one. The sun is way less in my eyes now when I’m driving. Honestly, it’s a pretty simple project, but it makes a big difference.
