Snapchat Use So Much Storage? Get Solutions for iPhone & Android!

Okay, so I’ve been noticing my phone’s storage getting eaten up like crazy lately, and it was bugging the heck out of me. I checked, and guess what? Snapchat was the main culprit. Seriously, it was hogging a massive amount of space. So, I decided to figure out what was going on.

Digging into the Issue

First, I went straight into the Snapchat app. I tapped on my profile icon, then hit the settings gear. I scrolled down to “Clear Cache” and tapped it. I was hoping that would magically fix everything.

  • It did clear some space, but not nearly as much as I expected. It was like a drop in the bucket.

So, I started thinking, what else could be taking up so much room? Then it hit me: all those saved chats, photos, and videos! Especially the ones in “Memories” and “My Eyes Only.” I realized Snapchat keeps a lot of stuff by default.

What I Found Out

I did some quick searching, and yep, it turns out Snapchat is kind of known for this. It’s constantly caching data to make things load faster. That’s all those lenses, filters, and Discover stories. Plus, if you’re like me and save a bunch of chats and snaps, that adds up fast.

My Clean-Up Process

Here’s what I did step-by-step to finally free up some space:

  • Cleared Cache (again): Just to be sure, I went back and cleared the cache again. Every little bit helps, right?
  • Managed Memories: I went into “Memories” and started deleting old snaps and stories that I didn’t really need anymore. This was a bit of a pain, but it was worth it.
  • Checked “My Eyes Only”: I almost forgot about this one! I had a bunch of stuff saved in there that I didn’t need on my phone. Deleted those too.
  • Reviewed Saved Chats: I went through my conversations and deleted any saved messages or media that weren’t important.
  • Change the Storage Location of Snap to SD Card: I changed snapchat storage to my SD Card.

The Result

After all that, I checked my storage again, and wow, what a difference! Snapchat was still using a good chunk of space, but it was way less than before. I finally had some breathing room on my phone. It felt good to get that sorted out.

Basically, if you’re having the same problem, you gotta be proactive. Snapchat won’t automatically clean up after itself. You have to manually go in and delete stuff. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s the only way to keep it from taking over your phone’s storage.
