Okay, so today I wanted to get a better handle on the pitcher’s set position. I’ve been watching a lot of baseball lately, and I’ve noticed how important it is for pitchers to have a consistent, solid set position.

First, I stood in front of a mirror. Just wanted to see what my natural stance looked like. I pretended I was on the mound, you know, getting a feel for it.
Then, I focused on my feet. I’ve read that the pivot foot should be parallel to the rubber, so I tried to do that. My other foot, I placed it slightly ahead, making sure it wasn’t too far out or too close.
Next up was my hands. I experimented with holding the ball in my glove, near my chest. Some guys hold it lower, near their belt, but I felt more comfortable with it higher up. I made sure my grip was firm, but not too tight, like I was actually about to throw.
- Foot Placement: Pivot foot parallel, other foot slightly ahead.
- Hand Position: Ball in glove, near my chest. Comfortable and firm grip.
- BalanceFelt good. Not leaning too far forward or back.
I practiced going through the motion of coming set, pausing, and then pretending to deliver a pitch. It felt a little awkward at first, especially trying to keep my balance, but I started to get the hang of it after a few tries.
I kept adjusting my feet and hands until it felt natural. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where you feel balanced and ready to throw. I want a set positon to be a solid, steady base.

After about 30 minutes of messing around, I felt like I had a decent set position. It’s definitely something I need to keep working on, but I think I made some good progress today. It is just a starting point, but every little step is a win, right?
