Okay, so I’ve been playing a ton of Animal Crossing lately, and let me tell you, that sneaky fox Redd and his art dealings… it’s a whole thing. I wanted to share my, uh, process for figuring out which paintings and statues are real and which ones are total fakes. It’s saved me a bunch of Bells, so maybe it’ll help you too.

Spotting those Fakes
First, I got my hands on some art. You know, visiting Redd’s boat whenever he shows up on my island’s secret beach. That part’s always exciting, like, what treasures will he have today? But then comes the tricky part.
I started by, like, really looking at the art. I mean, really squinting. The fakes always have something… off. A weird detail, a color that’s wrong, something missing. It’s like a messed-up game of “spot the difference.”
- I whipped out my phone.
- I googled“[name of the artwork in animal crossing] real vs fake”.
Seriously, that’s the key. There are some amazing guides out there, with pictures and everything. They show you exactly what to look for.
For example, I saw a “Wistful Painting”. At first I saw nothing wrong. Then I compared it to the photos on my phone.I noticed that the fake version, the girl’s wearing star-shaped earring. The real one, it’s just a plain round one!

So I use this little trick for every piece of art.
After doing this a few times, I got pretty good at it. I mean, I still use the guides, don’t get me wrong, but I can usually spot the really obvious fakes now. It’s kind of fun, actually, feeling like an art detective. I can finally fill up my museum, all thanks to being super careful (and having some help from the internet!).
