So I grabbed my new Adidas Codechaos golf shoes last week. Kept seeing ads saying they’re waterproof, but you know how marketing goes. Had to see for myself, especially since Oregon rains nonstop. Figured I’d test them during my usual weekend round at Pine Hills.

Getting Ready For Battle
Checked the weather app – perfect rainy Tuesday coming up. Wore my normal crew-length socks, nothing fancy. Wiped the dust off the Codechaos pair fresh out the box. Noticed those little rubber spikes look like they mean business. Locked my keys in the car and headed out.
First Contact With Wetness
Rain started light when I teed off Hole 3. Stepped right into some shallow dew puddles near the tee box. Shoes made that cool squishing sound but my toes stayed bone dry. Felt like wearing rain boots at this point – pretty impressed. Walked through soggy rough to find my ball, grass soaked my ankles but shoe tops held up.
Then came Hole 7 where it gets swampy. Found myself standing ankle-deep in muddy water looking for Tim’s lost ball. Held my breath counting to twenty… still dry inside! My feet actually felt warmer than expected, like the lining was trapping heat decently.
The Stress Test Moment
Heaviest downpour hit on Hole 13. Rain coming sideways like someone turned a hose on full blast. Walked through three consecutive fairway lakes deeper than my sole height. Water sloshed over the top edge near my left shoe tongue. That’s when I felt it – cold damp spot near my pinky toe.
Hustled through the last holes with soaked pants but checked my soles after each shot. Dampness stayed in that one spot, didn’t spread to whole foot. Finished 18 with:

- Right foot: Completely dry
- Left foot: Small quarter-sized wet patch near toes
- Sole drainage: Actually worked – water squirted out the side ports when I stepped
Post-Round Autopsy
Drove home barefoot with AC blasting on my feet. Peeling off the socks confirmed the damage. Tiny leak where water got through the seam near the laces. Let ’em dry overnight and retested Sunday morning. Same puddle, same leak spot. Must’ve been a small stitching gap near the tongue.
End verdict? Mostly waterproof but not submarine proof. Light rain and shallow puddles they handle no problem. If you’re stepping in deep water for more than a few seconds though, bring extra socks. For the price tag, expected 100% dry feet. Still decent for spring showers, but any serious rain I’m grabbing proper rubber boots.
