Okay, so, about this whole Auburn football coaching staff thing. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
First off, I started digging into this because, well, I’m a huge college football fan, and Auburn’s always been a team I follow. Things haven’t been great lately, and I really wanted to figure out what’s going on with their coaching situation.
The Current Situation
So, Hugh Freeze, he’s the head coach now. This is his second season. Honestly, things haven’t really turned around since the last guy, Bryan Harsin, was in charge. Freeze has a 9-13 record so far, and Harsin, who got fired in the middle of the 2022 season, had a 9-12 record. Not much difference, right? That’s what started me down this rabbit hole.
The Changes
Then, I saw that there have been a bunch of changes to the coaching staff recently. Like, they’re getting two new coordinators for the 2024 season. That’s a big deal. I read somewhere that Wesley McGriff, the secondary coach, might be heading over to Texas A&M. That got me thinking about how all these changes impact the team.
Digging Deeper
I started looking back at some older news, too. Back in January 2022, there were some changes to the defensive staff that Harsin announced. It seems like there’s been a lot of shuffling around on that side of the ball. Then, in November 2022, I found out that Ike Hilliard, the wide receivers coach, Will Friend, the offensive line coach, and Mike Hartline, the quarterback coach, all left. That’s a lot of turnover in one go.
More Turnover
And it didn’t stop there! I stumbled upon some news about Mike Bobo, the offensive coordinator. It looks like he was only there for one season. There’s always something going on with this coaching staff, I swear. I listened to some podcasts, too. “Locked On Auburn” had a really interesting episode about all this stuff. The host, Zac Blackerby, was talking to some radio guy from Montgomery, and they were breaking down all the drama.
Why So Much Change?
All of this made me wonder, why is there so much change happening with Auburn’s coaching staff? Is it because they’re not winning enough? Are there disagreements behind the scenes? I don’t have all the answers, but it’s definitely something I’m going to keep an eye on. By the way, I found out that Auburn’s mascot is Aubie the Tiger. And all their teams are called the Tigers. That nickname comes from a poem by Oliver Goldsmith, “The Deserted Village.” That’s a cool fact, huh?
It is a mess, to be sure. I will absolutely keep digging deep on it.
