Alright, let me tell you about my Buenos Aires tennis adventure. It all started with me just being bored on a Saturday, scrolling through some travel deals. Boom, a cheap flight to Buenos Aires popped up, and I thought, “Why not?” Plus, I’d always wanted to see if I could actually play tennis somewhere cool.
First thing I did after booking the flight was hit Google hard. “Tennis clubs Buenos Aires,” “tennis lessons Buenos Aires,” you name it, I searched it. Found a couple of places that looked decent online. I emailed them, trying my best broken Spanish, asking about court rentals and maybe a quick lesson. Got a surprisingly fast reply from a place called “Club de Tenis Palermo.” Sounded good enough.
Landed in Buenos Aires, the city was buzzing. Beautiful architecture, crazy traffic, and everyone seemed to be talking a mile a minute. Got to my hostel, dropped off my bag, and jumped on the subway to Palermo. It was packed like sardines, but hey, part of the experience, right?
Showed up at the tennis club, and it was way cooler than I expected. Clay courts, the smell of sunscreen, and the sound of balls being whacked everywhere. Met with the guy I’d been emailing, Pablo. Turns out his English was way better than my Spanish, thank god. We chatted a bit, and he set me up with a court for an hour.
Now, I’m no Federer, alright? More like a slightly uncoordinated panda trying to hit a tennis ball. But I had a blast. The clay was a whole new experience, made every bounce interesting. Slipped a few times, got some clay dust on my clothes, but who cares? I was playing tennis in Argentina!
After the hour was up, Pablo suggested a quick lesson. I figured, why not? He showed me some tips on my forehand, which was basically non-existent. Changed my grip a bit, got me focusing on my footwork. Honestly, I actually felt like I was improving, even if it was just a tiny bit.
Played for another hour with Pablo, and I was sweating buckets. But it was the good kind of sweat, the kind that comes from actually doing something. We finished up, I thanked Pablo a million times, and promised to come back if I ever found myself in Buenos Aires again.
Went back to the hostel, showered, and then headed out to explore the city. All thanks to my quick tennis session!
