Okay, so I was messing around with some NBA data today, specifically looking at players with the last name “Butler.” It’s a surprisingly common name in the league! I wanted to see just how many there were and maybe dig up some quick stats. Here’s how I went about it.

Finding My List
First, I needed a list. You know, somewhere that reliably tracks all the NBA players, past and present. I’ve used a few different sites before, but for this, I just did a quick search.
I typed in something like “list of NBA players named Butler”. Boom, a bunch of results popped up.
Gathering the Names
So, I’ve got a list. I started scrolling, just eyeballing it for anyone named “Butler”.
- Jimmy Butler, Obviously. He is the current all-star.
- Caron Butler was the one I remembered. Solid player.
- I saw a few others, Rasual Butler, Jackie Butler.
Digging a Bit Deeper
Now, it was time for some easy stuff.
I chose the most famous one –Jimmy Butler. I just wanted to pull up his, like, career points or something. Back to searching, I typed in “[Jimmy Butler] stats”. I used to use a particular site, but it doesn’t matter.

Checked out Jimmy’s *, rebounds, assists, you name it. All there. I might do this for the other Butlers later, just for fun.
My Takeaway
It’s kind of cool to see how many players with the same last name have made it to the NBA. It’s a simple little project, but sometimes it’s fun to just explore the data and see what you find. Makes you appreciate the sheer number of people who’ve played in the league over the years.
