Chris Griffin Track Announcer: What You Need to Know About the Family Guy Voice!

Hey everyone, today I wanted to share a little experiment I did with the track announcer’s voice from “Family Guy,” you know, Chris Griffin’s. It’s been bugging me how his voice has changed over the years. Yeah, I get it, people get older, voices change. But it still got me thinking, how hard is it to mimic that classic Chris Griffin sound?

So, first, I did a little digging. Turns out, Seth Green is the man behind Chris. That guy’s a legend! And then there’s Mike Henry, who voices a ton of other characters. It’s wild how many voices one person can do. I also found out that Mila Kunis voices Meg, and Alex Borstein does Lois. That’s one talented bunch.

My Experiment Begins

I started by watching a bunch of old “Family Guy” episodes, you know, the ones from the earlier seasons. I really wanted to nail that original Chris Griffin vibe. Then, I just started practicing. I’d record myself trying to imitate Chris, and man, it was way harder than I thought! I did find out that Chris Parnell had voiced a few characters as well, I recognized them as Doug, Priest, Card Store Owner, Father Raccoon, Guy at Pool, Highway Man, Joe Paterno, Partygoer, Smarmy, Target Manager, and Veterinarian.

I kept tweaking my voice, trying different pitches and tones, I even tried to copy his laugh. It was a total mess at first. I sounded more like a dying walrus than Chris Griffin, lol. I also read that a guy named Chris Griffin, who’s been a backup announcer at Monmouth Park since 2020, is going to replace Frank Mirahmadi. And apparently, he’s also the race caller at Parx racetrack and will be the full-time announcer at Monmouth Park next year. That’s a lot of Chris Griffins!

The Results

  • Attempt 1: Total disaster. Sounded nothing like him.
  • Attempt 2: Getting a bit closer, but still way off.
  • Attempt 3: Okay, this is starting to sound kinda like Chris, but still not quite there.
  • Attempt 4: I think I’m getting it! It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely recognizable as Chris Griffin.

After a bunch more tries, I finally got to a point where I could do a decent Chris Griffin impression. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty darn close. I even tried it out on a few friends, and they were pretty impressed. They actually thought it was Seth Green for a second!

It was a fun little experiment, and it really gave me a new appreciation for voice actors. It’s not as easy as it looks! Now, whenever I watch “Family Guy,” I have a whole new level of respect for Seth Green and what he does with Chris’s voice. It’s a talent, for sure.
