First Try – Total Mess
Grabbed my taming gear thinking “how hard could this be?” Went straight to Dreadmaw territory without checking anything. Saw this huge lizard stomping around near the volcanic vents. Threw standard tranquilizer darts at it like I do with regular raptors. Big mistake. Those darts just bounced off its scales! Monster woke up madder than a hornet’s nest, chased me halfway across the map. Lost three good rifles that day.
The Meat Debacle
Read online that they love prime jerky. Brought two full stacks thinking that’s plenty. Found another juvenile near Sulfur Springs. Placed the jerky trail leading to reinforced cage. When it took the bait? Total disaster. That little monster inhaled all the meat in 10 seconds flat then smashed my cage like toothpicks! Lesson? Bring FIFTY stacks minimum – their stomachs are bottomless pits.
Equipment Nightmare
Thought my tier 3 shock collar would work. Nope. That beast just flexed its neck muscles and snapped it like cheap plastic. Upgraded to industrial-grade restraints, but forgot the coolant packs. Metal restraints heated up from volcanic ground, burnt right through! Had to retreat again smelling like melted rubber.
Finally Nailed It
Prepped properly this time:
- Custom-made armor-piercing tranq darts soaked in triple-strength sedative
- Chilled carbon-fibre restraints with temp regulators
- Two full refrigerators of premium meat
Found my target at dawn near Obsidian Ridge. Shot it from thermal vents cover while it was drinking. When it staggered? Spammed all 50 meat stacks immediately. Beast started chomping like crazy while restraints auto-latched. Heart was pounding watching those metal clasps hold against the thrashing. Finally saw those angry yellow eyes go sleepy – sweet victory!
Mistakes You Gotta Avoid
If you remember nothing else:
- NEVER use standard darts – their hide’s tougher than truck tires
- Heat-resistant gear ain’t optional near volcanic spawns
- More meat. Then double it. Seriously.
- Always approach uphill – they’re slower climbers
