Okay, so I’ve been getting this question a lot: “how much does the bench bar weigh?” I hit the gym pretty regularly, and honestly, I wasn’t 100% sure myself! So, I decided to do a little experiment and, you know, document the whole thing.

My Little Experiment
First things first, I needed to find a few different bars. My gym has a bunch of them, so that was easy enough. I grabbed what looked like the standard ones, you know, the ones everyone uses for bench pressing.
- Step 1: The Hunt. I rounded up three different bars that seemed pretty standard. They weren’t the super thick ones or the really skinny ones. Just your average, everyday bench press bars.
- Step 2: The Weigh-In. I found a regular old bathroom scale. I placed it in a secure spot, placed the first bar on the scale. The scale will show the weights.
- Step 3: Repeat. I Did the same actions to the other bars.
Then the process is pretty simple.I put the first bar on the scale, It showed 45lb,and I noted it down, And the other two bars are all the same weights:45lb.
So, there you have it! At least at my gym, the standard bench press bars seem to weigh around 45 pounds. It’s one of those things you kinda assume everyone knows, but it’s always good to check, right? Hopefully, this helps some of you out there!
