Okay, so I’ve been watching a lot of football lately. You can’t help but notice the hair, right? Some of these guys have styles that are… well, they’re really something. It got me thinking, what’s the deal with these footballer hairstyles? So, I decided to dig into it a bit, just out of curiosity, see what the process is like.

First thing I did was just pay closer attention during matches. Then I started looking up pictures online, you know, just searching for “footballer haircuts”. Man, there’s a ton of variety. But you start seeing patterns pretty quickly.
Common Styles I Kept Seeing
It felt like a few things kept popping up again and again:
- The Fade: Seems like almost everyone has some kind of fade. Sides super short, gradually getting longer towards the top. Makes sense, keeps things neat.
- Something on Top: While the sides are short, the top is where the party happens. Could be messy, spiky, slicked back, dyed blond, you name it.
- Undercuts: Similar to fades, but maybe a more drastic difference between the short sides and the long top.
- The Headband Look: Think Grealish. Longer hair, but kept back with a band. Practical, I guess?
- Bold Colors: Not as common maybe, but you definitely see guys experimenting with bleach blond or even brighter colors.
My Little Experiment
So, watching wasn’t enough. I wanted to understand the ‘doing’. My hair’s nothing special, but I thought, maybe I could try incorporating one element. I went to my usual barber. I didn’t go full Foden or anything, nothing crazy. I just wanted to try a sharper fade than usual, something more defined, like you see on loads of players.
I showed him a picture on my phone – not even of a specific player, just a clean fade I saw. He nodded, got the clippers out. The process itself wasn’t that different from a normal haircut, just maybe a bit more attention to detail on the sides, using different guards, really blending it carefully. It took a bit longer than my usual quick trim.

Thoughts After Trying (Sort Of)
Getting even just the fade right takes precision. It’s not just hacking away. And you realize these players probably spend a decent amount of time and money keeping these styles looking sharp. Regular barber visits, definitely. Probably using specific products too to keep the top styled.
Why do they do it? Part of it is fashion, for sure. They’re young guys, they’re famous, they want to look cool. Standing out probably helps with branding and endorsements too, makes them more recognizable. And yeah, some styles, like the short sides or the headband, are practical for playing. Keeps hair out of their eyes.
So, that was my little dive into footballer hair. Didn’t end up looking like a Premier League star, obviously. But it was interesting to go through the process, even in a small way. It’s more than just a haircut for these guys; it’s part of the whole package. And it definitely takes effort to maintain.
