Okay, so I had this idea the other day. I’ve got this Groot figure, the kinda standard one, you know? And I also picked up that little Jeff the Landshark figure. Cute little guy. Anyway, I was looking at them both on the shelf and thought, wouldn’t it be cool if Jeff was perched up on Groot’s shoulder? Like they were buddies hanging out.
Getting Started – The Setup
First thing, I grabbed both figures. Groot’s got those branchy shoulders, not exactly a flat surface. Jeff’s got his little fins and tail, not really designed for sitting stably on uneven things.
I tried just balancing Jeff up there. No dice. He just kept sliding off or tipping over. Groot’s shoulder texture didn’t help, too bumpy. Needed something to keep him in place, but I didn’t want anything permanent like super glue. Wanted to be able to take him off later if I felt like it.
Finding the Fix
Rummaged around in my desk drawer. Found some of that sticky putty stuff, you know, the blue tack kinda thing you use for posters? Perfect. Reusable and shouldn’t damage the figures.
- Pulled off a tiny piece of the putty. Didn’t need much.
- Rolled it into a small ball between my fingers to warm it up a bit, make it stickier.
- Wiped off Groot’s shoulder area where I wanted Jeff to sit, just to get any dust off.
- Pressed the little putty ball onto Groot’s shoulder, squashed it down slightly.
Putting Jeff in Place
This took a little fiddling. I carefully took Jeff and positioned him over the putty. Pressed him down gently but firmly. Had to adjust his angle a couple of times.
Getting the pose right was key. Didn’t want him looking like he was about to fall off, or facing the wrong way. Made sure his little belly area was making good contact with the putty.
Once he seemed stable, I gave Groot a little shake. Jeff stayed put! Success.
The Final Look
And that was pretty much it. Now Jeff the Landshark is riding shotgun on Groot’s shoulder. Looks pretty awesome, adds a bit more character to the display. Simple little project, took maybe five minutes, but I’m happy with how it turned out. Just a fun little customization.
