Alright, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about Cody Rhodes and whether or not he’s still got the belt. I figured I’d jump in and try to clear things up, based on what I’ve been able to dig up.

So, first off, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole looking into this. Apparently, Cody’s been talking about bringing back the “Winged Eagle” belt for a while now. This is the classic belt design a lot of us older fans remember fondly. I even found an old article where he mentioned it as one of the “10 Things WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Can’t Live Without”. Pretty cool, right?
Anyway, I started checking out recent matches. I found out that Cody actually defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa on the season premiere of Friday Night SmackDown. He managed to hit a Cross Rhodes move to win and apparently, Roman Reigns, of all people, came out to help him.
But here’s the interesting part:
- I saw that Cody supposedly showed up at a relaunched Saturday Night’s Main Event with the Winged Eagle belt.
- Then, I read that he defeated Kevin Owens at that same event.
Now, there’s no official word from WWE on whether this is a permanent change. I tried finding any announcements or statements, but nothing concrete. It could just be a one-off thing, or maybe Cody’s just testing the waters to see how fans react. He said in one place he was still actively trying to bring it back.
While digging, I also stumbled upon something else interesting. Apparently, Cody said he plans to quit wrestling full-time when he hits 45. That’s a few years away, but it definitely makes you think about the future of the title, whatever design it ends up being.

So, what’s the verdict?
From what I can gather, it seems like Cody Rhodes does have the Winged Eagle belt, at least for now. He’s been using it, and there are reports he won it from someone. However, it doesn’t seem like WWE has officially made it the main championship belt yet, even though the one he has now carries the same lineage, so he’s still the champ. It’s all a bit up in the air. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. Maybe Cody will be the one to finally bring back the Winged Eagle for good. Who knows? I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
