Alright folks, let me tell you about my recent trek – Serbia to Slovenia! It was a bit of a spur-of-the-moment thing, but totally worth it. Grab a coffee, this might take a minute.
First things first: The Planning (or lack thereof)
So, I wasn’t exactly rocking a detailed itinerary. Basically, I knew I wanted to get from point A (Belgrade, Serbia) to point B (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and I had a vague idea of the general direction. That was about it. I figured I’d wing it and see what happened. Sometimes, those are the best trips, right?
Getting Out of Belgrade
Started off in Belgrade. Awesome city, by the way! Spent a couple of days just wandering around, soaking up the atmosphere. Then it was time to figure out the transport sitch. I decided against flying – too boring! I wanted to see some stuff along the way. So, I looked into buses and trains. Train seemed a little more scenic, so I went for that. Booked a ticket online – easy peasy.
The Train Journey – Serbia to Croatia
The train ride itself was…interesting. Let’s just say Serbian trains ain’t exactly high-speed. But hey, it was comfortable enough, and the views were pretty sweet. Rolling hills, little villages, you know the drill. The border crossing into Croatia was a bit slow. Had to get off the train, show my passport, wait around… the usual. But eventually, we were back on track.
Pit Stop in Zagreb
Zagreb, Croatia was my planned stopover. Spent a night there, explored the city a bit. It’s got a really cool vibe – kinda like a mini-Vienna. Ate some great food, drank some local beer. Good times.
Zagreb to Ljubljana – The Final Leg
From Zagreb, it was a much shorter train ride to Ljubljana. The scenery got even better as we got closer to Slovenia – more mountains, more forests. Border crossing this time was a breeze – both countries are in the EU, so no big deal.
Arriving in Ljubljana!
Finally made it to Ljubljana! What a beautiful city! Everything’s so clean and green. Checked into my hostel, dumped my bag, and went straight out to explore. Walked along the river, checked out the castle, ate some more good food. Slovenia is awesome. No regrets about ditching the detailed plans and just going with the flow.
- Pro-tip: Don’t be afraid to change your plans! I originally thought about spending more time in Croatia, but I decided to head to Slovenia earlier, and it was the right call.
- Another pro-tip: Pack light! Lugging around a huge suitcase on trains is no fun.
Wrap-up
Overall, the trip from Serbia to Slovenia was a blast. Sure, it wasn’t always smooth sailing, but that’s part of the adventure, right? Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cool European getaway. Go for it!
