So, the other day I got it in my head to figure out exactly how to get to Dyersville, Iowa. You know, the place with that famous movie baseball field. It wasn’t for any specific trip planned right this second, more just sorting it out in my mind, maybe for later.

Figuring Out the Route
First thing I did was grab my phone. It’s usually the quickest way for this stuff. I opened up that map application, the one I always use. Pretty straightforward.
I tapped in the destination box and typed out ‘Dyersville, Iowa’. It popped right up, recognized the town. Good start.
Then, I had to put in where I’d be starting from. For practice, I just put in my general area, let’s say near Chicago to get a real sense of the drive. The app chewed on it for a second and then showed me the blue line on the map.
It looked like a pretty direct shot, mostly highway driving. Here’s the gist of what I noted down:
- Head west out of the Chicago area.
- Get on I-90 for a good chunk.
- Then switch over to US-20 West. This seemed like the main road that takes you almost all the way there.
- Stayed on US-20 for quite a while, going through Illinois and into Iowa.
- As you get close to Dyersville, there’d be an exit off US-20. The app showed the specific exit number, which I mentally bookmarked.
- After the exit, it was just a few turns on local roads following the signs into the town itself.
Final Thoughts on the Drive
The total time looked like maybe 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on traffic getting out of the city, of course. Seemed manageable for a day trip or a weekend thing.
I zoomed in on the map around Dyersville too, just to see the layout. Found the Field of Dreams Movie Site marked clearly, a little bit outside the main town center. Looked like easy roads to get there once you’re in Dyersville proper.
So yeah, that was basically it. Didn’t take long. Just opened the app, punched in the start and end points, and took a good look at the route. Got a clear picture of the highways involved, the main one being US-20 heading west into Iowa. Feel like I’ve got a handle on it now if I ever decide to make the drive.
