Exploring the Political Affiliation of Military Voters & Families

Okay, so I was messing around with some data today, trying to figure out if there’s a connection between being in the military and how people lean politically. It’s a question I’ve been curious about, and I finally got around to digging into it.

My Little Experiment

First, I needed to get my hands on some decent information. I started to searched many public data, but the results are unsatisfactory. It’s really a mess, and many data can not to be used.

So, I decided I’d try to create my own little dataset. I started to collect data online, but failed. Then I turned to finding ready-made data from others.

Wrangling the Numbers

After that, I wanted to see what the overall picture looked like.

  • Started cleaning: I got rid of any entries that were incomplete. You know, the ones with missing info. Gotta have clean data!
  • Looked at the spread: How many folks identified as Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc.? Just getting a general feel for the numbers.

The (Not So) Shocking Results

Honestly, the data I found was a bit. It’s difficult to get a conclusion.

So, yeah, that was my little dive into the data. It wasn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it was interesting to see the patterns (or lack thereof) firsthand. It definitely made me realize how tricky it can be to get good, solid data, and how much work goes into even simple analyses like this.
