Okay, today I’m gonna talk about trying out this “Ernie Golf Pro” thing. You know, I’ve been messing around with golf for a while now, and I always hear about this Ernie Els guy and how smooth his swing is. So, I thought, why not give it a shot and see what all the fuss is about?

First off, I watched a bunch of videos of Ernie swinging. Man, that guy is like butter! It’s so relaxed and easy-looking. I’m over here looking like I’m trying to chop down a tree, and he’s just gliding through the ball. So, I started by trying to copy his setup. They say he has a “slightly open stance,” whatever that means. I just tried to make sure my feet weren’t pointing straight at the target and kind of angled them a bit. Feels weird, but okay.
Getting the Feel
- Stance: Tried to copy Ernie’s slightly open stance. Felt a bit odd at first.
- Grip: I already had a decent grip, so didn’t change much there.
- Posture: This was the hard part. Ernie is all relaxed and loose, and I’m usually stiff as a board. Tried to loosen up my shoulders and just relax a bit.
Then came the swing itself. I’ve always struggled with making a good shoulder turn. I feel like I’m all arms and no body. Watching Ernie, it’s like his whole body is working together in one smooth motion. I tried to focus on turning my shoulders more and keeping my arms connected to my body. It felt really different, like I was using muscles I didn’t know I had.
The Swing Itself
- Backswing: Focused on a bigger shoulder turn. Felt like I was winding up like a spring.
- Downswing: Tried to keep it smooth and not rush it. This was tough!
- Impact: Honestly, it felt weird. Didn’t feel like I was hitting it as hard, but the ball seemed to go further.
- Follow-through: Tried to let my body naturally rotate and finish the swing.
I hit a bunch of balls at the range, and it was a mixed bag. Some shots felt amazing, like I was finally getting it. Others were the same old slices and hooks. But there was definitely something to this Ernie Els thing. It’s like I had glimpses of what a good swing should feel like. I kept practicing trying to keep the swing smooth and not rush it.
I’m not saying I’m suddenly a pro or anything, but this “Ernie Golf Pro” experiment was definitely worth it. It gave me a new way to think about my swing and some things to work on. I’m gonna keep at it and see if I can get a little more of that Ernie smoothness into my game. It’s a long way to go, but hey, at least it’s fun trying!
