So, I’ve been messing around with this thing called “agoal,” trying to, you know, actually get things done. It’s been a bit of a journey, so I figured I’d share what I’ve been up to.

Getting Started
First, I needed to figure out what “agoal” even meant for me. Was it going to be some super-strict system? Nah, that’s not me. I just wanted something to help me stay on track. So, I started by simply writing down what I wanted to achieve. Nothing fancy, just a plain old list.
The Messy Middle
Okay, so I had my list. Now what? This is where things got, well, messy. I tried a few different things:
- Using a notebook: Classic, right? But I kept forgetting to check it.
- Setting phone reminders: Annoying! They’d pop up at the worst times.
- Trying out some apps: Too many bells and whistles. I just wanted something simple.
I realized quick that using just any of these tools weren’t gonna cut it. So I decided to use the notebook to jot down ideas, then use the reminders and apps to refine the deadline and notifications. It was at this stage that I realized I need to adjust my list, breaking down my large goal into sizable chuncks.
Finding My Groove
After a bit of trial and error, I finally found something that worked. I started breaking down my big goals into smaller, more manageable steps. Like, instead of “write a novel,” it became “write 500 words today.” Much less daunting, right?

I also started tracking my progress. Just a simple checkmark next to each completed task. It’s surprisingly satisfying to see those checkmarks add up. I learned that I need to give myself a break. The first few times, I tried to do too much with unrealstic expectations. That burned me out quick.
Making it Stick
The biggest challenge? Sticking with it. Life happens, things get in the way. But I’ve found a few things that help:
- Keeping it visible: I put my list where I can see it every day.
- Celebrating small wins: Finished a task? Awesome! Treat yourself (within reason, of course).
- Not beating myself up: Missed a day? No big deal. Just get back on track tomorrow.
The Results (So Far)
So, has it worked? Yeah, I think so. I’m definitely getting more done than I used to. It’s not perfect, and I’m still figuring things out, but it’s a start. And that’s what matters, right? Getting started, one small step at a time.
