Okay, so I’ve been trying to up my golf game lately, specifically focusing on getting more speed on the ball. It’s all about distance, right? The faster that ball goes, the farther it’s gonna fly. So, I started digging into how to actually do this, and let me tell you, it’s been a real learning experience.

Speeding Up the Backswing
First thing I tried was speeding up my backswing. I saw somewhere online that it was a good way to boost ball speed without messing up my whole swing. So, I started focusing on really whipping that club back faster than usual.
- Day 1: Felt weird, like I was rushing things. Didn’t really see a huge difference in ball speed, but I figured it would take some getting used to.
- Day 3: Okay, starting to get the hang of this. I’m swinging back quicker, and it feels like I’m building up more energy. Still not sure if it’s making a big difference, though.
- Day 7: I feel like I might be onto something here! My backswing is definitely faster, and I can feel more power as I swing down. Starting to think this might actually work.
Hitting the Sweet Spot
Then, I realized that speed isn’t everything. You gotta hit that sweet spot on the club face to really transfer the energy to the ball. I started paying more attention to where I was making contact. This part was a bit trickier, but here’s how it went:
- Day 9: Tried to focus on hitting the center of the club face. Man, it’s harder than it looks! A lot of off-center hits today. Frustrating, but I kept at it.
- Day 12: Getting a little better at finding that sweet spot. When I do hit it right, the ball really pops off the club. Still inconsistent, but I’m seeing progress.
- Day 15: Okay, I think I’ve cracked the code! I’m hitting the sweet spot more often now, and my ball speed is definitely up. It’s like a whole different feeling when you connect just right.
Smash Factor
There is also something called “smash factor” which is basically how efficiently you transfer energy from the club to the ball. I heard that the perfect smash factor is around 1.5. So, if your clubhead speed is 100 mph, a 1.5 smash factor would mean a ball speed of 150 mph.
I tried to keep my ball speed between 150-160.

- Day 18: I don’t have a launch monitor or anything, so I can’t measure my smash factor precisely. But I’m pretty sure I’m getting closer to that ideal number based on how the ball is flying.
- Day 21: Definitely seeing an improvement in my distance. I’m hitting the ball farther than I ever have before. This whole speed thing is really paying off!
- Day 25: I feel like a new golfer! My drives are longer and more consistent. It’s amazing what a difference a little extra speed can make. I’m pretty sure that I am close to the 150-160 ball speed.
So, that’s my journey to faster ball speed in a nutshell. It took some experimenting and a lot of practice, but I’m finally seeing some real results. I am hitting the ball farther and feeling more confident on the course. If you’re looking to add some distance to your game, give these tips a try. You might be surprised at what you can achieve!
