Yesterday, I decided to try my hand at something new, horse racing. I’ve always been a little curious about it but never really dove in. So, I figured, why not? I went online and found this “free picks for Belmont Park” thing. Sounded interesting enough.
First, I spent some time just reading up on what Belmont Park even is. Turns out, it’s a pretty big deal in the horse racing world. Who knew? Then I started looking at these “free picks.” Basically, they’re predictions from people who supposedly know their stuff about which horses are likely to win. Seemed like a good place to start since I knew absolutely nothing.
I picked a few of the suggested horses, just randomly really, and tracked their performance throughout the day. I didn’t bet any actual money because, well, I’m not crazy. But I wanted to see if these picks were any good.
- Race 1: My chosen horse came in third. Not bad, not great.
- Race 3: This one was a total flop. The horse finished near the back of the pack.
- Race 6: Surprisingly, this horse actually won! I was pretty shocked, to be honest.
- Race 8: Another middle-of-the-pack finish. Nothing to write home about.
After watching all the races, I realized a few things. One, horse racing is way more complicated than it looks. There are so many factors that go into it – the horse’s history, the jockey, the track conditions, you name it. Two, these “free picks” are definitely hit or miss. I guess that’s why they’re free.
In the end, I’m glad I tried this little experiment. I learned a bit about something new, and it was kind of fun following the races. Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I rely solely on free picks if I were actually betting? Definitely not. I think I’ll stick to things I actually know something about for now.
It was a good reminder that there are no shortcuts to success, especially in something as unpredictable as horse racing. You gotta put in the work, do your research, and even then, there are no guarantees. But hey, that’s life, right?

This whole thing was just for kicks, but it was a good reminder to not take things at face value. There is always more than it seems.
